What Makes a Corporate Gift Actually Memorable?

BY digitalnut
FLŪR JOURNAL

I think the easiest way to judge a corporate gift is to forget about the company giving it for a moment and think about the person receiving it.

How do you feel when you open it?

Do you feel good? Do you feel respected? Do you feel that somebody actually thought about you?

If the answer is yes, then I think the gift has done its job.

For me, that is what makes a corporate gift memorable.

It should feel like it was chosen, not just ordered

When you’re gifting your employees, clients or business partners, there is always an element of the company in that gift. So naturally, the branding matters. The packaging matters. What goes inside matters.

But more than anything, the person receiving it should feel that some thought went into it.

For an employee, it could be as simple as thinking, “This came from a good company. They actually thought about me.”

Maybe the box is beautifully made. Maybe it is customised. Maybe there are genuinely good things inside it. Maybe there is a little detail that makes you stop and think, “Oh, they chose this specifically.”

Those little things add up.

And I think this becomes even more important when you are gifting to a particular group of people.

Recently, I spoke to someone from a real estate business that regularly hosts parties and events. Their events were the kind where drinks were a big part of the evening, so instead of suggesting a standard box of chocolates, I started thinking about what would actually suit their audience.

I proposed a selection of chocolates made with flavours inspired by what their guests were already enjoying — rum-based chocolates, vodka-based chocolates, whiskey-based chocolates and so on.

The idea wasn’t simply to put alcohol into chocolate because it sounded premium.

It was to make the gift feel relevant to the people receiving it.

And I think that is the difference.

A corporate gift doesn’t have to be extravagant to be memorable. It just has to make the person receiving it feel like someone thought about them before putting the box together.

At Flùr, that is what I try to think about whenever I create a corporate gift.

Not just, “What can we put in this box?”

But, “Who is going to open this box, and how do we want them to feel when they do?”

Because ultimately, the best corporate gift isn’t the one with the biggest price tag.

It’s the one that makes someone feel good about being on the receiving end of it.
